A Message from the President

President Jim Morton

Dear Sea Devil Community,

At Cape Fear Community College we understand that preparing students for successful careers involves more than classroom instruction. It requires a clear, guided path from education to employment. That’s why we are proud to introduce Cape Fear 4Careers, a new initiative that brings all of our Career & Technical Education and apprenticeship programs under one cohesive, easy-to-navigate brand.

Cape Fear 4Careers aims to simplify the process for students, job seekers, and employers to connect with their needed opportunities. This rebranding effort improves visibility and accessibility, reinforces our position as a leader in workforce development, and streamlines the connection between talent and industry.

As a part of this initiative, we have launched the Career Resource Center, a one-stop shop for career planning services. Open to students, alumni, and local businesses, this center is a vital tool in strengthening the region's talent pipeline. Services include:

  • Career coaching and resume assistance
  • Interview preparation
  • Job search support
  • Career and major exploration
  • Coordination of work-based learning opportunities
  • Part-time and full-time employment resources

Our commitment to workforce development is already producing incredible results. CFCC alumnae and Construction Management graduates Maria Torres, and sisters Alana dos Santos and Julliane De Souza, are powerful examples of what's possible when education aligns with industry needs. After gaining hands-on training and technical knowledge at CFCC, all three have launched thriving careers in construction at Monteith, in an industry where women are still underrepresented. Their stories showcase the impact of career-focused education and highlight how CFCC programs prepare students to excel in high-demand fields.

Our goal is straightforward: to ensure that our students receive comprehensive training and are thoroughly prepared for meaningful employment. Whether they are embarking on their careers for the first time or seeking to reenter the workforce, Cape Fear 4Careers serves as their pathway forward.

In Case You Missed It

We are proud to be a partner in a groundbreaking health care initiative, the New Hanover Healthcare Career Partnership (NHHCP), which brings together CFCC, the University of North Carolina Wilmington, New Hanover County Schools, and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. The NHHCP addresses critical workforce challenges in New Hanover County by focusing on the recruitment, training, and retention of health care professionals committed to serving our communities.

CFCC announced the appointment of David Howell as the Foundation's Executive Director. With nearly two decades of experience in philanthropy and public service, David brings a mission-driven approach and a deep passion for improving lives and creating meaningful, lasting change in the Cape Fear region.

CFCC's Electrical Lineworker program is celebrating a major milestone. With the recent graduation of its largest class, 53 graduates, the program has officially surpassed 1,000 total graduates since its launch in July 2018. What began with just eight students in its inaugural class has become one of CFCC's most successful and in-demand programs.

Meet Jack and Finn Viorel, a father-son duo bonded by their love of surfing. Jack turned his passion into purpose by founding a local surf school—a mission that grew into global success. Raised in that environment, Finn developed a passion that carried him from hometown waves to competing at the highest level in the World Surf League.

Just two months into her new role as CFCC’s Nuclear Technology Program Director, Kelli Davis is already working to inspire students to intentionally choose this rewarding career path rather than discover it by chance, as she did. With two decades of experience in the nuclear power industry, Kelli rose through the ranks after unexpectedly landing in a field she initially knew little about.
