Dear Sea Devil Community,
At Cape Fear Community College, we proudly serve the residents of Pender and New Hanover Counties through both education and community-focused services. While education is at the heart of our mission, we go beyond the classroom to offer high-quality, affordable services that enrich our community and give our students the hands-on experience they need to thrive in their chosen careers. Programs such as dental, barbering, cosmetology, esthetics, nail technology, and dog grooming allow students to practice their skills in real-world settings while providing essential, affordable services. This practical experience enhances their training and prepares them to confidently enter the workforce, equipped with the skills needed for successful careers.
Additionally, students in our Construction Management, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Plumbing programs have partnered with organizations like WARM NC and Eden Village of Wilmington to work on meaningful projects that improve housing conditions for local families. Through these collaborations, students gain hands-on experience while making a positive, lasting impact on the lives of community members. These projects exemplify our "learning by doing" model, benefiting our students' futures and the community.
Our commitment to community service also extends to the incarcerated. CFCC provides inmates with valuable training in fields such as construction, plumbing, and other trades. These programs are designed to help ease their transition back into society by equipping them with the skills to secure employment and rebuild their lives upon release.
One of our most successful initiatives in this area has been the Pathway Home 2 program, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and offered in partnership with LINC, Inc. This program provides critical job training and support for individuals transitioning from prison or jail to reduce recidivism and improve employment outcomes. We are proud to report that the current recidivism rate for participants in the Pathway Home 2 program is just 9.94%, far below the program's goal of 16% and significantly lower than the state average of 40%. This program's success has earned CFCC recognition, including a commendation from Governor Roy Cooper for our efforts in helping incarcerated individuals achieve educational completion and rebuild their futures.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Cape Fear Community College. We take pride in serving the residents of our region not only through exceptional education but also by providing services and programs that make a lasting impact on the community. As we continue to expand our partnerships and offerings, we remain committed to helping individuals achieve their educational and career goals.
