Dear Cotting Community,

I want to reach out during this difficult time to let you know what we are doing at Cotting School in response to the Coronavirus situation. As you well know, the safety and health of our students have been and continue to be our foremost priorities.

Following the advice of our Medical Director, Dr. Liz Harstad of Children’s Hospital and in consultation with other school officials, we closed Cotting School from Friday, March 13 through Friday, April 3. Our staff sprang immediately into action to make every effort to keep students and families connected to each other and to our community. We posted a  Coronavirus resource page  on our web site, with information for families of students with special needs and our updates.  This webpage is dynamic and we continue to offer new resources as we find them or develop them ourselves.

Teachers and therapists have been discussing the best ways to provide families with a variety of resources, activities, and materials for use at home. We continue to work on this, doing our best to give students as much access to learning activities as possible. Classrooms have their own Google Classroom sites to make learning easily accessible. Teachers are posting activities and assignments, and even hosting live classes throughout the week. Teachers are reaching out to students individually as well to give them encouragement and help them feel connected.

Additionally, we’ve launched a new Cotting Connects Blog Post:  Online Resources for Families and Educators of Students with Special Needs.  Please feel free to check out these resources, as they are continually updated.

All buildings on campus have been cleaned and disinfected and are now closed. Two parent meetings have been scheduled online by our mental health team to answer questions and offer support , helping all members of the community become familiar and comfortable with the resources available. This helps us keep connected while we practice social distancing and other important measures to keep our community safe as a whole.

We will continue to respond to the situation with the prompt, high-quality professionalism for which Cotting has always been known.

Thank you for being part of our Cotting community, and please stay safe.
All my best,
President,
Cotting School
