Dear Barrington 220 Community,

Over the past several days I have watched our community come together as we mourn the loss of Barrington High School student Marin Lacson. First, I want to thank you for supporting one another during this difficult time, especially our students and staff. The care and comfort we provide to one another is one of the many strengths of our community. Please continue to be there for each other in the days and weeks ahead.

I also want to share with you that we will be reviewing our instructional practices as they pertain to railroad safety. Every fall Barrington 220 holds a Safety Week where all schools participate in drills that are mandated by the State of Illinois, including fire drills, tornado drills, lockdown drills and bus evacuation drills. One of the safety topics of the day for this week is railroad safety. Moving forward, we plan to look at ways to enhance the learning experience for our students surrounding this topic. In addition, please click here to view resources that you may find helpful for talking to children about railroad safety.

We will continue to partner with the Village of Barrington and the Barrington Police Department to evaluate opportunities to improve safety measures with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Union Pacific Railroad, Metra, and the Illinois Commerce Commission. As these conversations develop, we will provide updates.

As always, our staff is available for students who may need someone to talk to. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, counselor, or principal to request additional support.
