Good Afternoon Chartiers Valley Families,

I hope this email finds you well and healthy. I have some important updates regarding COVID-19, winter weather processes, and the upcoming winter break. Please take a moment to read the information below, and if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out. As the days progress leading up to winter break the District will continue to provide information.

COVID-19
This afternoon, December 15, the Chartiers Valley Middle School COVID-19 cases reached a total of four (4) cases, all of which were present in the school building during their period of contagion.

As per Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) guidelines and in compliance with the Governor’s attestation order, the building will close for a period of time to conduct thorough case investigation, contact tracing, cleaning and disinfecting.

The Middle School building will be closed for in person instruction on December 16 and 17. During this time, all students will utilize remote learning as their education pathway. Students will follow their typical daily schedules via Google Classroom. Friday, December 18, will be a normal remote learning and operational day in the building.

CVMS will resume in-person learning (Hybrid and Hybrid +2) on December 21, as the COVID-19 active case count “resets” following a building closure, according to PDE guidelines.

Inclement Weather
As inclement weather may be headed our way, please note that this winter we will be employing remote learning days and not school cancelations. Therefore, if we experience winter weather which would have traditionally caused a school closure, the District will now shift to remote learning, and the school day will continue online via Google Classroom (K-8) and Schoology (9-12). On these weather-related remote learning days, teachers will work remotely.

If weather creates the need for a 2-hour delay, the 2-hour delay schedule will be deployed as it has been in previous years.

Remote Learning Days
The District found it quite beneficial to take advantage of the Thanksgiving break and utilize remote learning the week following the holiday. In turn, the District will follow the same precautionary measures after the winter break in an effort to mitigate cases of in-school transmission. All CVSD students will learn remotely on the following dates: January 5, 6, 7, 2021.

December 24-31, January 1, 4 (Winter Recess - No School for Students)
January 5, 6, 7 (Remote learning)
Following winter recess and remote learning days, on-campus instruction (Hybrid and Hybrid +2) will resume on January 11, 2021.
Thank you again for your continued support, cooperation, and patience during this unprecedented time in our lives.

Most Sincerely,

Johannah M. Vanatta, Ed.D.
