Bring Ella's Story to the Screen!

Hello, Dear Friends and Fans,

It's been an exciting week at the Ella Jenkins film camp!

In case you hadn't heard, the campaign for Ella Jenkins: We'll Sing a Song Together met our match grant goal on Tuesday night. We're a bit overwhelmed at the amazing support we've received, and we can't thank you enough!

We did stop to cheer, (a lot,) however we still have a ways to go to get this project funded. I urge you to continue to share the campaign link today and this weekend, and to continue to get the word out about our film. That link again is:

A message from Ella Jenkins

Once the campaign hits 33% funded, we have a message from Ella we can't wait to share with you. We want to deliver it to you post haste, so please keep spreading the word!
Plus, for all funders who pledge between now and when we hit the 33% goal, we have a special musical gift we'll share via email.

Did you know Ella was the first African-American female host on Chicago television?

In the late '50s Ella was leading songs with children when she was "discovered" on the street by a producer at WTTW, the educational television station in Chicago. It was on WTTW that she presented a weekly music segment called "This is Rhythm" on The Totem Club, from 1956 until the early '60s. You can see clips from The Totem Club in our teaser trailer for the documentary campaign.

This week's winner of a personally autographed, vintage copy of Ella's
award-winning Folkways LP, This is Rhythm is an ever-mysterious Anonymous donor!

Thanks Anonymous, for all you do everywhere! We'll be contacting you to claim your gift.
A new autograph contest will be announced for $35+ backers on facebook and twitter this morning. Check social media for the posting shortly!

As we head into Labor Day weekend, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Ella's Grammy-nominated album, Ella Jenkins and a Union of Friends Pulling Together is available as a thank you gift for your donation to the film campaign.  On the theme of cooperation and unity, the CD features guests Pete Seeger, Bucky Halker and members of Ella's church! I hope you'll keep it in mind as you enjoy your long weekend.

If you are interested in donating a significant amount for credit in the film, we are able to accept tax-deductible contributions to the campaign through our 501(c)3 sponsor. To learn more about making a tax-deductible contribution to the film, please email me at

If you or someone you know would like to be added to the email list for Ella Jenkins: We'll Sing a Song Together, email requesting addition to the list. If you'd like to be removed, reply to this email with "Remove" in the email subject heading and I'll personally take you off the list.

Thank you again for your support. Ella's been waiting on this project for quite a while, so let's make this movie happen!

With gratitude,
Tim Ferrin
Producer/Director Ella Jenkins: We'll Sing a Song Together

P.S. Enjoy Ella performing her classic tune, "Who Fed the Chickens?" When our campaign wraps up, I hope you'll be able to say "I did!"
