A Message from Fr. Mark Brauer
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Effective Saturday, March 14, all Sunday and weekday public Masses, communal Penance services, and all other parish events will be suspended during this time. I share your shock and sadness in regard to the Holy Mass being postponed until April, our Shepherd, Archbishop Vigneron, believes that this is the spiritual response that we are to take till further notice.

Archbishop Vigneron sent an email this afternoon to all of the Priests and the Faithful within the archdiocese postponing all Masses until Monday of Holy Week, April 6, 2020. He stated in his letter, “As we remain in continued dialogue with medical experts and local civic leaders, we have an important development to our Archdiocesan directives. Before I share these with you, I want to remind you of the importance of prayer and penance – especially during this Season of Lent. He continues to remind us that, “Mass will be available to you each day via live-stream and other media channels.”  You will find these on our (Archdiocese of Detroit – AOD) website www/aod.org. Be assured that our priests will be offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass each day in private so as to harness and direct the great spiritual grace and power contained therein. As you temporarily participate at Mass in this different way, you and your families are encouraged to make a daily Spiritual Communion by praying:

“My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.”

In regards to Our Lady of Sorrows, all parish events are postponed till April 6, 2020. With deep sadness the presentation The Passion Through the Eyes of Mary will not take place this year. Also, the Fish Fry scheduled for April 3, 2020 has been cancelled.

The church building will remain open each day for private prayer so that you can pray before the full presence of Christ in the Tabernacle. Individual confessions will be available on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 PM till 4:00 PM. In the words of the archbishop, “Let us entrust ourselves to Our Lady of Lourdes, patron for those who suffer illness. Through her intercession, may God grant healing and protection to the people in southeast Michigan and beyond. And let us, by the courageous hope with which we face the challenge of the virus’ spread, give witness to our confidence in the good news of the Lord’s victory over suffering and death.” Let us keep one another in prayer.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Mark S. Brauer
