Dear Members of the Worcester Prep Community;

I want to take this opportunity to let you know that in these uncertain times I am committed, excited and looking forward to serving as the Head of School of WPS. Although my contract does not officially start until July 1, 2020, I have been actively involved in the transition, including being a member of the Mallard Strong Task Force that is discussing how we will reopen this fall.

First, let us commend Mr. Michael Grosso and his team for taking the lead and providing a quality education with rigor in an environment no one could have expected. Although challenging, from everything I have read, Worcester Prep has been a leader, setting an example for other schools to follow.

We should also congratulate all the seniors whose world has been turned upside down. You have overcome, adapted and made the most of your opportunities in unprecedented circumstances, and you will always be remembered in the lore of history of this great school as a group who endured like no other.

From this point forward I will lead the reopening process, and the Task Force is committed to students returning to the WPS campus on September 1, 2020, with as much normalcy as possible. There will be adjustments based on Governor Hogan’s executive orders and recommendations from the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (AIMS). To that end, we have created several subcommittees to address specific aspects of reopening, and we will keep you informed as things continue to develop.

Please keep in perspective that all schools across the country are dealing with this dilemma, and it is going to be a fluid process as we gather more information. Our goal is to be as open and transparent as possible.

We understand your anxiety and appreciate your patience as things continue to unfold.

Thank you for all you do on behalf of our students, and let’s stay Mallard Strong.

Sincerely,
Dr. John C. McDonald Jr.
Head of School.
