A Message from Jack Markowski, CIC President

Dear CIC Investors and Friends:

Today I informed the CIC Board of Directors of my plans to retire in 2021. Next May, I will be turning 70, and I have long had an ironclad agreement with my wife that we would use that milestone to enter our retirement years. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of leading CIC for the past 13 years, but after working for more than 40 years in affordable housing and community development, it is time for me to enter the next phase of my life.

CIC is a fantastic organization, and serving as President has been an honor and the capstone of my career.

As you know, CIC fills a unique role in Chicago and across the country. We have a great record of accomplishment that has been achieved by our talented, dedicated, and experienced staff. We have a strong board of directors, and we have significant financial strength. Given our mission, we certainly face challenges presented by the current pandemic, but we are well positioned to survive and flourish into the future. Indeed, the need for investment in the communities we serve has never been greater.

At the core of CIC’s sustained success are the investments and contributions from more than 50 financial, philanthropic, and government partners. We appreciate your confidence and support, and I can assure you that we will continue to shepherd your investments with the utmost care.

For the near term, it will be business as usual. I plan to serve in my position until May 31, 2021. Until that time, I will continue to work full time to lead the efforts to achieve CIC’s current and long term goals. The Board of Directors has formed a Search Committee to find CIC’s next President. I plan to assist the Board, as appropriate, in its search and in the transition to new leadership.

In the near future, you can expect to hear from the Search Committee as they begin their work. In the meantime, please contact me if you have any questions or comments. Your investments have fueled the success of CIC. We are committed to maintaining an organization that will be worthy of your investments in the future. Thank you so much for your support.
