Covington Food Bank Food Drive: Please pick up a paper bag at the exit doors of church this weekend. The bags can be filled and brought back to church next weekend to benefit the Covington Food Bank. Thank you for feeding the hungry!

Congratulations:
Parishioners Ellis Iverson and Steve Sperier, who are in formation for the diaconate, were installed into the Order of Lector at a Mass on August 10, the Feast of St. Lawrence the Martyr. Please continue to keep Ellis and Steve in your prayers.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serving in high schools: If anyone serving as an EMHC at their Catholic high school is interested in serving at Mary, Queen of Peace, please contact Sandy Dombrowski at [email protected]. Thank you!

August 15: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Masses at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Because the solemnity falls on a Monday, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation.

August 17: Opening School Mass at 9 a.m. We welcome our students, faculty and staff back for a new year!

August 18: "The Necessity of Mercy in Marriage," A Year of Mercy special with Kate and David Dawson, 7 p.m. in the church. Child care will be available.

Prayer service for peace: All are invited to join Archbishop Aymond and local interfaith leaders for an evening of prayer asking for peace and healing in our communities and for the protection of law enforcement officers. Living the works of mercy: Join Archbishop-emeritus Alfred Hughes for a presentation and conversation on how Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, St. Katharine Drexel, and Venerable Henriette DeLille lived the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy in their ministries here in New Orleans. The presentation will take place at 7:00 PM at the Archdiocesan Retreat Center on September 13, 2016, and at 7:00 PM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church on September 15, 2016.

Gospel Music Festival:"Mercy is Our MIssion" is the theme of the Gospel Musical Festival on September 17 at 6 p.m. at the Carver Theater, 2101 Orleans Avenue. Free admission with a donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

  • Friends of the Poor Walk: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is hosting their 9th annual Friends of the Poor© Walk/Run on September 24. The North Shore walk will take place by the yacht club.
