Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and that you too, are looking forward to a great 2018! I would just like to take a moment to review a few key items from last year.
In 2017, we gained a few new people throughout the village: starting with a new Village Clerk, two new Village Trustees, a new Village Administrator, as well as new Finance Director and new Mayor.
We focused on our goals and objectives in 2017, one of which was obtaining Lake Michigan water. Currently, we have completed Phase 2 of the internal system for Lake Michigan Water (on time and within budget), Phase 3 is in process, and is on course to be completed in 2018. The village staff has been working diligently with Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA) on obtaining easements for the external project (transmission main) as we are looking at late 2018/ 2019 completion. In addition, in the fall we were unanimously approved in becoming full voting members of the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA) Board!
Additionally, we have completed street light upgrades, along with village-owned facilities; switching to LED. We were successful in obtaining a grant for over $140,000 for the funding of this project. This will provide an annual energy savings of approximately $31,000.00.
This year we have added several new businesses to the area, and worked with others on expansions and renovations. Economic Development is an important part to our future; we will keep working not only to bring new business to Wauconda, but to work with the ones who have already committed to Wauconda, to help them, and retain them.
Also, in the Fall we had a special census conducted for the Liberty Lakes East area, in which the preliminary results show that we have added over 600 residents to our community since 2010, which will generate additional revenue for the village.
We finally have a new Community sign! Although some adjustments are still being made, and the final touches won’t be complete until Spring, it is up and running. We look forward to being able to bring more information to residents and neighbors about our great town. Thanks to all who helped bring this to fruition!
Lastly, we have brought several residents onto our committee structure at village hall; these neighbors have volunteered and will work with the trustees prior to items moving on to the Board level. The Board and I are constantly looking to hear from you with your feedback and input.
I would like to take a moment to say thank-you! Thank-you to the residents and business owners; thank-you for your faith in me, the trustees, clerk and staff, we are here for you and want to hear from you and work with you …Thank-you, have a very happy and prosperous new year!
