It appears Spring is still working on getting a foothold here, hopefully it will be here soon, as flowers are now starting to bloom and daylight is getting longer.
I’d like to take a moment and thank our two State Senators; Melinda Bush and Pamela Althoff, on meeting recently with our Economic Development Committee and I regarding ongoing and future plans, and the needs for Wauconda. We are also meeting with our County Board and State Representatives, as well as other state agencies as we look for ways to continue to move our village forward.
In other news, the village has received official word from the US Census Bureau that our Special Census last year added over 630 additional residents and over 170 new homes in the Liberty Lakes East subdivision since 2010. Thank-you to all who participated as this does provide additional revenue over the next couple of years from the state.
As mentioned earlier, we are working on the final stages of our annual budget. We will be hosting a workshop this Saturday with final details to be approved by May 1,
2018. Once we have this complete, I will be providing a State of the Village in regards to where we have been and where we are headed in the near future. Afterwards, we will be scheduling future meetings for updating our Strategic Plan for the upcoming years. Please stay tuned for more information as plans progress.
In closing, I would like to offer my condolences to the Swanson family on the recent passing of Arbutus (Arb) Swanson. Arb was a lifelong resident of Wauconda, who was born on Main St in 1919. She loved Wauconda and helped so many people over the decades, through many different community groups and civic organizations. In 2006 she was presented with the Mayor's Community Service Award for her dedication to the residents of Wauconda. She will be missed by many; rest in peace Arb.
