Dear Fellow St. John’s Parishioners,
During the Vestry’s August 20th meeting, we created two important documents to take the next steps in the discernment process for our next Rector. The first is a list of desired characteristics of the Discernment Committee members. The second is the Charge from the Vestry to the Discernment Committee, which lays out the tasks for the Discernment Committee to undertake in calling our next Rector.
Both documents are attached to this letter. View them here.
The next step is YOURS.
On behalf of the Vestry, I invite you to prayerfully consider nominating yourself or another member of St. John’s to serve on the Discernment Committee to search for our next Rector. The deadline for nominations is September 13, 2024. Nominations should be emailed to discernment@stjohnsec.org. The nomination should include the following:
- Your Name or the Name of Your Nominee;
- The Best Phone Number and Email to Contact You or Your Nominee; and
- A Brief Paragraph Describing What You or Your Nominee Offers to the Discernment Committee.
The Vestry will meet on September 17, 2024, to appoint the Discernment Committee and its Co-Chairs. Committee members will be commissioned on September 29, 2024, at the ASH worship service at 9 am and the 11 am Historic Church service.
Serving on the Discernment Committee will be an extraordinary service to our congregation. On behalf of the Vestry, the Discernment Committee will explore how God is calling St. John’s to live out its Mission, and discerning which clergy candidates to recommend to the Vestry those candidates best equipped to carry out this Mission with us.
We look forward to hearing from you in this exciting moment in the life of St. John’s!
Faithfully,
Gordon

Almighty God, bless us with a spirit of faith, courage, understanding, wisdom, and discernment. May our hearts and minds be open to new opportunities and ideas as we follow where You lead us. Grant us steadfastness and patience in the midst of the challenges and obstacles that will arise during this period of transition. Guided by the Holy Spirit, may the people of St. John’s be united in love – with warm hearts, enlightened minds, and open arms.
All this we pray, empowered by the love of Jesus Christ. Amen.
