M'KOR MAIL
November 6, 2019
Once or twice in a lifetime
A man or woman may choose
A radical leaving, having heard
Lech l'cha - Go forth.
God disturbs us toward our destiny
By hard events
And by freedom's now urgent voice
Which explode and confirm who we are.
We don't like leaving,
But God loves becoming.

Our Torah portion for this week is Lech Lecha, as God calls Abraham to take his wife and nephew and leave everything they have known to journey forth into the unknown. The future is filled with uncertainty AND promise. God promises to guide the way and promises that Abraham's life will be a blessing for generations to come. And yet, Abraham does not know how it will all unfold, and takes a giant leap of faith.

We have all experienced such moments (large and small) - where we have wrestled with the decision to make a change, to listen to our soul "calling" us to move forward, to step outside of our comfort zone. We have all taken a step into the unknown - not knowing how it would all turn out, but holding on to the promise of a better future.

This Friday evening, our Kabbalat Shabbat service begins at 6:30 pm, and will be followed by dinner and M'korstock Unplugged, featuring the Ben Turner Quartet, as guitarist Ben Turner brings along other well-known area musicians for an enjoyable evening of jazz. No RSVPs are needed for services or for the music after, but dinner requires a reservation and pre-payment of $15 per person.

Shabbat morning, I will be leading Torah Study beginning at 9:00am. And, at 10:30 am, Scott Kushner will be leading Spice Up Your Judaism.

Sunday afternoon (3:00 pm), Cantor Harrison will join the Reform Cantors of Greater Philadelphia in offering a concert to benefit the Union For Reform Judaism's 6-Points Creative Arts Academy summer camp. The concert will be held at Congregation Kol Ami in Elkins Park, PA. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased online at 6pointscreativearts.org/concert or at the door. All proceeds will go directly towards the URJ 6 Points Creative Arts Academy.

L'shalom,
