The Rev. Adam Conley Appointed as Curate at Saint Mark's

Dear friends,

It is my delight to share the news that Bishop LaBelle has appointed Adam Conley to serve a two-year curacy-in-training program at Saint Mark’s Cathedral. His first day will be July 14, 2025. Adam was ordained a transitional deacon at Saint Mark’s last December, and he is a candidate for the priesthood in this diocese, having been raised up in the community of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lower Queen Anne. His ordination to the priesthood is scheduled for June 14, 2025, at the cathedral.

Adam is no stranger to Saint Mark’s, having served on the cathedral staff as Director of the Seattle Service Corps, editor of The Rubric, cathedral grant writer, and staff support for the 20s & 30s ministry from 2018–2022. He resigned his position to attend seminary in Sewanee, Tennessee, where he is scheduled to graduate in May with a Master of Divinity.

In our tradition, curates are newly ordained priests serving in an internship of sorts as they continue their formation. Adam brings many gifts to this role, and he will be a capable member of the team of clergy engaging the full array of parish priestly ministry. We are glad for the appointment, and we look forward to his ministry in our midst.

Please join me in welcoming Adam back to the cathedral community. I am,

Yours, in Christ,

The Very Reverend Steven L. Thomason

Dean and Rector

A Message from The Rev. Adam Conley

Dear People of Saint Mark’s,

When I left my employment as a lay ministry leader at the Cathedral to attend seminary in 2022, I knew I’d eventually return to Seattle. I confess I even hoped and prayed for a first call somewhere in the Seattle metro region as a newly ordained priest in the Diocese of Olympia. I did not have the slightest clue that coming home would also mean returning to Saint Mark’s Cathedral as one of your priests!

I am truly thrilled to be returning to Saint Mark’s to serve as your curate as together we engage the diverse expressions of parish ministry and community outreach that distinguish the Cathedral’s missional presence in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and beyond. Saint Mark’s is a faith community that is deeply committed to formation and I know that I will be uniquely formed as a priest, even as I exercise my core ministry duties of preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and sacramental/liturgical ministry.

Please pray for me as I conclude three years of life at Sewanee, wrap up one last semester of classes, and prepare for graduation in May and ordination in June (and a big, cross-country move somewhere in that mix). Rest assured you are in my prayers, too. I look forward to being with you again in only a matter of months.

In Christ,

Adam+

Saint Mark’s Cathedral acknowledges that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People, who are still here, and we honor with gratitude the land itself and the life of all the Coast Salish tribes. [Learn more]
