Dear Friends of Girard College,

Over the last several weeks, our world has experienced an unprecedented test of our resiliency and ability to come together as a community.

Here at Girard College, under the leadership of our president, Dr. Heather Wathington, our team of administrators, faculty and staff have demonstrated that ability and our strong commitment to the safety of our children. Faced with the rapid developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were ready to implement a detailed plan to dismiss our students on March 13. On Monday, March 16, our faculty were trained to deliver online instruction.  Virtual GC started March 17 and our students have responded very positively.

Of course, we are closely monitoring the needs of at-risk students and working with these families to ensure they receive support during this difficult time. Our counselors continue to reach out to families and connect them to community resources. Last Friday, our dining services team made available to our families a food pantry, providing such essentials as milk, cheese, cereals, eggs, meat, canned goods, and fresh produce. We have also developed a communications hub on our website with regular updates on this evolving situation: www.girardcollege.edu/about/coronavirus

To the many alumni and friends that have reached out to express your concern and willingness to help, we are deeply appreciative. We are working closely with our partners, other organizations, and the Girard College Alumni Association to assist with addressing financial and other needs during this time. For those of you who want to make a gift to help Girard College, please do so at www.girardcollege.edu/ support

Girard College has always been a compassionate and supportive community. Now, more than ever, is a time for all of us to bring forth that spirit of cooperation and action. At this time, Girard College’s campus has been shut down except for essential staff. Please know that our Advancement Team along with other staff will continue to respond from remote locations according to state regulations.

Should you have any questions or wish to learn more, please do not hesitate to contact me at sbastani@girardcollege.edu.

Together, Girard College and all of us will emerge from this crisis.

Stay well and safe.

Hail Girard!
