 Introducing THE VELLANO CORPORATION

Since our founding after World War II, Vellano Bros., Inc. has strived to adhere to the highest business practices and is proud to be an integral part of the United States water works industry for over sixty-five years.

Vellano Bros., Inc. is a third generation family owned business now poised to begin the process to pass the torch to the fourth generation of the Vellano family. Towards that end, a new corporation has been formed to operate our water works supply business. Effective July 1, 2013, Vellano Bros., Inc. will no longer be functioning as our primary operational corporation. Vellano Bros., Inc. will however continue to honor all of its current obligations to our customers.

Our new corporation, known as The Vellano Corporation, will act as our primary operating company. There will be no change to the current business operations, ownership, officers, locations or employees. The Vellano Corporation will continue to offer the same superior service to its customers while it continues to grow and foster its business relationships throughout the industry.

By now, our credit department has sent a new credit application or municipal account information form to be completed so that we can update our records with your most current information.  If you have not already returned these documents, please do so at your earliest possible convenience.  This will provide the most seamless transition as we move to the new operating entity.  If you have not yet received a new credit application, one may be downloaded from www.vellano.com or by contacting Lori Lake at 800-342-9855.  The municipal account information sheet can be obtained by contacting Denise Folino at 800-342-9855.

If you have any questions with the credit application you may also contact Robert F. McCarthy at 518-785-5537. I thank you for your cooperation in this matter and look forward to our continued business relationship.

Very Truly Yours,

Vellano Technologies proudly offer many unique product lines, capable of making your life easier and safer. Our overall goal is helping you get the job done right - the first time. We are proud to highlight a vendor sure to do just that. Efficiency Production's Slide Rail Shoring system is a component system comprised of steel panels and posts.  A safe, cost-effective alternative to traditional closed sheeting systems used in excavating big, small or challenging jobs. The universal system can be used in a variety of configurations to meet any shoring challenges.

Slide Rail can be custom engineered to your job. It has been proven effective in a variety of applications including large/small vault installations, pump stations, lift stations, wet-wells, large tanks, footings and foundations, press pits inside buildings, long pipe joints, poor soil conditions, adjacent structure situations, parallel water mains and boring operations.

Slide Rail is installed simultaneously as the trench or pit is excavated by sliding the panels into rails on the posts, and then pushing the panels and posts incrementally down to grade as the pit is dug; a process commonly referred to as a "dig and push" system. Slide Rail posts have either a double or triple rail which telescope panels to required depth. Some examples include:

Slide Rail Standard

Standard 4-Sided Pit

Individual Slide Rail components offer the option of using lighter equipment when installing the system. The cost of rental and installation of the system is approximately 50 percent of steel sheeting.

FEATURES

  • Installation and required excavation are completed together, saving time and reducing cost.
  • Wall to wall working space is greater.
  •  Minimal vibration to adjacent buildings and surrounding structures.

  Slide Rail Clearspan

ClearSpan

The Efficiency ClearSpan™ System incorporates special walers for larger unobstructed four-sided working pits for site specific jobs.

FEATURES

  • Provides a large unobstructed working area.
  •  Cost effective compared to steel sheeting and other methods.
  •  Heavy duty panels provide minimal deflection
  •  Minimal vibration to adjacent buildings and surrounding structures

Slide Rail Multi Bay

Multi-Bay, 4-Sided or Linear

This configuration is ideal when installing next to existing utilities and structures. Longer pipe may be installed by raising or removing the parallel beam spreader assembly.

FEATURES

  • Innovative parallel beams eliminate post deflection during installation and removal. The roller design facilitates the vertical movement of the integrated beam and spreader unit.
  •  The parallel beam can be used with spreaders or arches.

Efficiency offers many possibilities tailored to each job. The Barrier Posts & Guard Rails are an easy, OSHA compliant fall-protection device. The posts' adjustable shoes also fit 3-8 inch trench shield sidewalls.

Engineering support from Efficiency includes custom engineering and pre-bid CAD system drawings; special application design for highly challenging job site conditions; sales, marketing and customer service support; and on-site installation assistance from the country's foremost Slide Rail System and Trench Shielding Specialists.

Our Featured Branch- Rochester, NY

The Rochester branch just celebrated their 25th anniversary. There are a few things unique to this branch over the rest of the Vellano locations. One of which is the Rochester branch consists of two high-powered teams, a father-son team and a husband and wife team. And maybe that unique combination is, in part, why customers know without a doubt that their questions will always be answered, calls will always be returned and customers can count on these very dedicated team members.

Heading up the Rochester team is Mark Annello, Branch Manager. Mark Annello has distinguished himself in a range of roles within the company. Mark started in 1978 at the Latham office. He began his career 35 years ago loading trucks and worked his way up through the ranks as Yard Foreman, Counter Salesman, Inside Municipal Salesperson, Contractor Sales and Assistant Branch Manager. He has been in his current role of Branch Manager at the Rochester location since 1988 and his wealth of knowledge on all past products and current product lines are a valuable resource to The Vellano Corporation as well as Rochester customers.

Mark's son, Nathan, joined the Rochester team of Vellano Bros.,Inc. in July 2009 and progressed to full time in 2011. Nathan embraces the newest technology and latest ideas, and pared with Mark's product knowledge, history and experience, they make a formidable team.

Not to be outdone... The team of Marge Wilson and Rich Wilson, who make up the Rochester sales team, combine forces to always provide exemplary industry insight, customer coverage and service.

Marge is Contractor Sales Manager and has been with the Vellano organization for 26 years. She is one of the first females in the local industry and actually started the Vellano Bros. branch out of her house.

In 1989, the Rochester branch needed another salesperson. Marge knew of Rich in the industry and hired him based on his extensive experience.

Rich Wilson has represented Outside Sales for the company for over 23 years. Rich brings his extensive background, contractor experience and waterworks knowledge, as a 2nd generation waterworks specialist (his father works at the Williamson Water Dept.), to his role at The Vellano Corporation.  His hands-on approach is a great asset to customers and his dedication to serving them is clear.

Rich and Marge share the same goals, work ethic and dedication to the business and made a great team on all fronts. With one on the road and one in the office, they adeptly serve the contractors, municipal and waterworks industries. Marge Wilson and Rich Wilson form one of only two spouse teams within the company (the other is Denise and Jeff Folino in the Latham office).

This branch has the ability to "do it all". There is no single individual rep for each industry - any of the 4 branch employees can adeptly serve as municipal, contractor or waterworks representatives.  The Rochester division also represented the last branch that the Vellano companies needed to open in New York State to provide state wide coverage.

Featured Vendor- The Mueller Company

Mueller Co. celebrated 150 years of business in 2007, making it one of the oldest suppliers in the North American Water Industry. With more than 2000 employees across North America, Mueller began in 1857 with just one man, Hieronymus Mueller. A German immigrant with a passion for craftsmanship, he set up a one-room machine shop in Decatur, Illinois to grow his gun making and mechanical-repair business.

Around 1870, Decatur appointed Mr. Mueller as city tapper. It was his job to connect new customer service lines to the water main.  In those days, this was literally a "hit or miss" process.  The "hit" meant driving the tapered inlet of a special valve into the side of the water main through a hole that had been drilled almost through the pipe wall.  The "miss" came not from missing the valve, but from the all too frequent valve that didn't stay wedged in the main, or the main pipe that split during the installation process.  In either case, water often flowed uncontrollably causing the tapper to have to scurry out of the ditch for safety.

Mr. Mueller took his inclination to always look for a "better way" to solve this alignment problem by creating his first water-related product. The single-bar, two-chamber machine performed all operations using just one shaft, which always retained exact alignment with the hole in the pipe wall.  He patented his new machine in 1872 for use on both water and gas lines. To go with his new machine, he designed a special valve that could be threaded instead of being wedged into the hole in the water main.

The valve and tapping machine was the first in Mueller's extensive water works product line.  The drilling and tapping machine made by Mueller today, the B-101(TM) Machine, uses his original concepts along with modern materials and methods for sealing water inside the machine.  The B-101 machine is the most widely used machine in North America for installing new services.

Soon after patenting his tapping machine, Mr. Mueller turned to the problem of water pressure and in 1882, patented the water pressure regulator. Then in 1913 the U.S. government was looking for a way to stop ships from ramming into the gates of the newly-opened Panama Canal. Mueller created a solution by adapting its pressure-regulating valves to snub the movement of the huge chains draped in front of the gates to stop errant ships.  To this day, 95 huge Mueller Regulating Valves continue to protect the Panama Canal locks.

Mueller also had more than 100 auto-related patents. Among them were the make-and-break ignition distributor, and the forerunner of the modern sparkplug.

In 1933, Mueller purchased the Columbian Iron Works in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  This added fire hydrants and cast iron gate valves up to 36" in size, rounding out the company's water distribution product line. Today, valves up to 54" are being sold. "Everything from Main to Meter" became an advertising slogan characterizing the breadth of the company's offerings and product lines.

Mueller was also the first to apply the O-ring to many of the products used by the water industry, such as iron gate valves and machines.  In 1949 the company introduced the first O-ring sealed valve used on gas meters.

Today, the Mueller name represents more than 10 manufacturing locations from coast to coast in North American, including Canada. Since 2006, it is also the name of the company's new parent corporation:  Mueller Water Products, Inc., which is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.  Mueller Water Products is a $2 billion corporation that is the largest "pure play" water infrastructure company in the Americas. Mueller is a leading North American manufacturer and marketer of infrastructure and flow control products for use in water distribution networks and treatment facilities. Its broad product portfolio includes engineered valves, fire hydrants, and pipe fittings, which are used by municipalities, as well as the commercial and residential construction, oil and gas, HVAC and fire protection industries.

While the past 150 years have seen immense changes in the company, some things remain the same.  Mueller Co.'s business philosophy continues to reflect the values of its founder who had a reputation for "always looking for a better way" to do things.  It continues to value trust and honesty in conducting its business, and in building and holding onto solid relationships with its associates, both inside and outside the company.  It still holds to a Mueller family admonition that said, "Never make a product you would not be proud to put your name on."

Joe Vellano heads to the New England Patriots for Training Camp

It's been a long-time coming as Joe Vellano heads to the NFL. Joe joins the New England Patriots as a free agent after a month of talks with the organization.

After talks, false starts with other organizations and a memorable visit from Coach Belichick to Joe's Maryland campus to review film and talk strategy, Joe finally gets to prove it all on the field. Joe is attending the Patriots' rookie minicamp in Foxborough, Mass. at the invitation of Coach Bill Belichick.

He explained to the local paper, the Times Union, "It's a little nerve-racking just waiting and trying to see where everything kind of panned out. This is one of the teams I felt I fit pretty good in even before the draft started.  We were kind of seeing what was the best fit."

And a pretty good fit it may be as Joe brings to the table an impressive record as a two-time first-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and 2nd-team AP All-American who played both tackle and defensive end at Maryland.

Seth Leavitt of YNN Sports interviewed Joe during his first week as a Patriot.  To view this interview, click this link:  Joe Vellano's Interview as a Patriot

Many teams considered Joe during the draft but, at the end of the day, the Patriots looked at his stunning record and made the call. The rest, as they say, will be history. Here at the Vellano family of companies, everyone will be sitting at the edge of their seats, proudly waiting to cheer him on to victory.
