The Board of Education of the City School District of New Rochelle is proud to announce that Superintendent Dr. Corey W. Reynolds has agreed to a contract extension, securing his leadership through at least 2029. The Board unanimously approved the extension at its February 4 meeting, ensuring continued stability and progress for the school district. The agreement will take effect retroactively on July 1, 2024, and run through June 30, 2029.
“We are deeply grateful for Dr. Reynolds’ steadfast leadership and commitment to our students and our community,” said Board President William Iannuzzi. “He assumed leadership at a pivotal time, guiding our district through the post-pandemic landscape and laying the foundation for a new era of growth and excellence. His extensive experience as a teacher, principal, and administrator gives him a unique and invaluable perspective. We need his vision and talent in New Rochelle.”
Board Co-Vice President Adina Berrios Brooks echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for stability in the school district. “Our community has called for continuity in leadership and improved student outcomes. Dr. Reynolds has already demonstrated his ability to navigate complex challenges, including last year’s difficult budget season. He is the right leader to steer us through the fiscal landscape ahead.”
Board Co-Vice President Makeda Lewis highlighted Dr. Reynolds’ innovation and accountability. “Dr. Reynolds and his team have taken a forward-thinking approach to problem-solving in our schools. His collaborative leadership style keeps student needs at the forefront while maintaining fiscal responsibility to our community and taxpayers. In just 18 months, his impact has been remarkable.”
Dr. Reynolds expressed his gratitude for the Board’s confidence in his leadership. “I am honored and humbled by this opportunity to continue serving the students, families, and educators of New Rochelle. The past two years have been both eye-opening and inspiring, reaffirming my belief in the transformative power of public education. There is no greater call than helping our students achieve their highest potential, and I remain fully committed to their success as we move forward together.”
Dr. Reynolds was named Superintendent of the City School District of New Rochelle in July of 2023 after serving as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources/Chief Human Resources Officer since 2021. His career in education began as an elementary school teacher in the Mount Vernon and Greenburgh Central School District schools and rose through administrative ranks to help students beyond the walls of his classroom. Before joining the City School District of New Rochelle, he served as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Personnel in Greenburgh. He also has held the position of Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in the White Plains School District; was Assistant Superintendent for Supervision, Curriculum, and Instruction for Elementary Administration in the Yonkers Public Schools; and was an Assistant Principal and Principal for a decade in the Ossining Union Free School District.
Dr. Reynolds holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Seton Hall University and his master’s degree in Elementary Education from Fordham University. He earned a second master’s degree from the College of New Rochelle, specializing in School Administration and Supervision, later returning to Seton Hall for his doctoral degree in Education Leadership, Management, and Policy.
Dr. Reynolds’ contract extension affirms the district’s commitment to continuity, progress, and excellence in education and to the whole child. The Board of Education and community look forward to continuing this partnership and together advancing the district’s mission, vision, and core beliefs.
