Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will appear over you.
Isaiah 60:1-2
Happy Feast of the Epiphany!
Today we draw back the veil and are invited to see things as we have never seen them before. I recently had cataract surgery in both my eyes; I have to say that I am truly seeing things like I’ve never seen them before. The world is much brighter, and what was blocking my vision has now been drawn back.
I think that’s what this Epiphany season is all about—remembering those moments when we heard the voice of God, either booming out from the sky above or in the sometimes-quiet breeze. This season is all about what needs to be revealed to us, and what it is that we need to proclaim with our lives.
We are called to be like those wise people who saw an amazing star in the sky and knew they couldn’t just sit still. It was listening to the voice of God’s angel and going home in another direction. It was in the stories that they told, to anyone who would listen, that made the light of this babe in Bethlehem burn brighter in the world around them.
I wish you many Epiphany moments during this sacred season.
