Welcome Back!
As I reflect on the summer of 2025, I am so grateful to have spent time with family, enjoyed long summer days, and sought opportunities to continue my journey as a lifelong seeker of knowledge. This summer, I was focused on researching the concepts of belonging and culture as integral elements of DEIB. Did you know that young toddlers as young as three begin to develop the tools to demonstrate empathy? Recent studies show that our brains, even at that tender age, are hard-wired to create connections and meaningful relationships throughout our lifetimes.
Belonging, as defined by many behavioral specialists, is a fundamental human need-the feeling of deep connection with social groups, physical places, and individual and collective experiences. To be seen, to be heard, and from a Gen Z student, “to be in a place where people take me as I am, where I can be myself, and have freedom.” In the practice of true belonging here at Chatham Hall, our goal is to live into the words we have articulated in years past: to engage in deeper programming, stronger partnerships, and broader conversations, which will lead to clearer lines of communication, greater understanding, and stronger bonds of friendship.
Our new school year has arrived, and it is my honor to serve as the Dean of Inclusion. This new title says it all, as I look forward to working with this community where everyone is valued. The DEIB realm is excited to offer new collaborations across affinity groups and a robust 2025-2026 Cultural/Educational Events Calendar. Civil Discourse and its application will be top of mind in conversations across our campus. Working with our external consultant, The Weathers Group, promises to be a very positive and productive experience as we strive to explore all that is DEIB.
Please join me as we move into new spaces and new opportunities with a renewed passion for wellness and voice, now and throughout the coming school year.
Yours in dignity, equity, and empathy,
Mrs. Deborah Glymph
Dean of Inclusion
