April 20, 2020

Dear Oakwood Community,

I hope this email finds you well and your families safe and healthy. I am writing to give you a few updates about plans for the rest of the 2019-20 school year. I am thankful to all of our remarkable teachers, students, and parents for putting in an abundance of time and effort to make this transition go as smoothly as it has under the circumstances.  Governor Roy Cooper has set the current stay-at-home order to expire April 29. There are also separate orders in place right now for Greenville and Pitt County. However, it has not yet been announced if the orders will carry over into May and/or June. Even if the governor's order does expire on April 29, we anticipate a phased opening of the state with restrictions on large group gatherings. This, unfortunately, means in-person classes may not be allowed to resume and our end-of-year events might have to look a little different this year.

The administration, division coordinators, and I are working diligently to plan these events in the best format possible. If you have students in grades 6-12, you should have received an email on Friday from Jennifer Smith and Anita Rish-Hodgkins regarding the cancelation of end-of-year exams for students in order to prioritize instructional time. In the coming days and weeks, you will be receiving communications containing any changes to plans for the rest of the year, including graduation, the senior showcase, athletic banquet, and academic awards day. I will also begin sending regular Sunday communications with updates and logistics about academics.

I want to thank you again for your support and understanding as we have transitioned to our distance learning format. We are looking forward to returning to campus as soon as possible and maintaining our Oakwood traditions in the safest and best way possible for our community.

If you have questions, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you and be well,

Dan Quesnel
