Dear District 36 Parents,

We wanted to bring to your attention a bill that was recently passed in the Illinois House of Representatives and is currently in the Illinois Senate --- HB 2789.  For those of you who are not already familiar with HB 2789, this bill would remove local control over how and if schools may operate during a health crisis ("health crisis" is not a defined term and not limited to COVID).  Note that HB 2789 applies to all schools -- public, private, and parochial. The School Board believes that giving local districts the flexibility to adjust policies according to the needs of their community and their local health metrics offers the best option for providing in-person learning while keeping students, staff and families safe.

The board encourages parents to familiarize yourself with this bill, and if you have an opinion about whether it should become law, please consider sharing your opinion today with your elected representatives.  Below is a link to the bill.
