Dear Parents,

When a school tragedy occurs, our entire community grieves.  We are holding all at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in our hearts today.

The Winnetka Police Department and District 36 are committed to the safety of our students and staff. As part of this collaborative relationship, officers are regularly present in and around our buildings. Police and fire officials frequently meet with administrators and staff to review safety protocol and procedures. Today, an officer spent time visiting our buildings and grounds throughout the day to reinforce our partnership and provide a sense of solidarity. We wanted to you to be aware of this ongoing partnership, as well as the police presence today, in case your child should mention this at home. If you should need resources to help guide conversations with your child, these recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and National Association of School Psychologists may be helpful to you.

While we are deeply troubled by the news in Florida, we remain grateful for the dedicated experts at The Winnetka Police Department and all who strive to keep the Winnetka community safe. If you should have any questions, please contact your building principal.

Sincerely,

Trisha Kocanda          Marc Hornstein
Superintendent          Interim Chief of Police
