A Message from Vice Chairman Darryl McCormick

Dear ESU Friends,

It is with great pleasure and pride to announce, on behalf of the English-Speaking Union Board of Directors, that our Chairman, Dr. Quinn Peeper, will be honored with the English-Speaking Union Founder's Award at a special Gala on March 15, 2025 in Winter Park, FL.

The highest distinction our organization can bestow, the ESU Founder’s Award was established in 1991 to celebrate individuals who epitomize the vision of Sir Evelyn Wrench, the ESU's founder. Recipients are recognized for their outstanding contributions to Anglo-American relations, international friendship, and the promotion of English as a tool for global communication. The inaugural ESU Founder’s Award was bestowed upon none other than The Right Honorable Margaret Thatcher, OM, FRS, MP, in 1991. Since its inception, only eight other individuals have been honored with the Founder’s Award, underscoring the exceptional nature of this recognition and the careful discretion with which it is conferred.

We cannot think of anyone who better exemplifies Sir Evelyn Wrench's vision or more fully embodies the spirit of the Founder's Award than Dr. Peeper. His impact on the ESU has been both extensive and profound, touching every aspect of our organization.

Dr. Peeper’s journey with the ESU spans decades. As a board member and President of ESU New Orleans, he revitalized the Branch, launching educational programs, special cultural events, and international tours.

His leadership at the national level as a Board member, President, and now Chairman, has been marked by major fundraising efforts and high-profile events, including the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration and the Gala in honor of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.  In recognition of his “contributions to the English-Speaking Union in its wider global setting,” he received the international Princess Royal Award, bestowed by HRH Princess Anne herself. As an acknowledgment of his efforts to strengthen U.S.-British relations, Dr. Peeper serves as His Britannic Majesty’s Honorary Consul for Louisiana, having been appointed under Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Dr. Peeper is also a generous ESU benefactor. His annual gifts and major contributions have supported many of our educational programs, including the launch of the ESU Andrew Romay New Immigrant Center.

During all these years as ESU leader, supporter and champion, Dr. Peeper has shown deep respect for ESU's rich heritage and a keen vision for its future, inspiring our community to reach new heights while staying true to our core mission.

Plans are underway for a special Gala to formally bestow the Founder's Award upon Dr. Peeper. This celebratory event, to which all of you are warmly invited, will be held on Saturday night, March 15, 2025 in Winter Park, Florida. Please save the date - we look forward to sharing more details about this occasion in the near future.

Please join me in congratulating ESU Chairman Dr. Quinn Peeper on this well-deserved honor, a testament to his exceptional service and an inspiration to us all.

Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Gala on March 15, 2025 in Winter Park, Florida.

With warm personal regards,

Darryl McCormick
