A Message from The Brick Church School Board
Dear Brick Church Members and Friends,

In recognition of Teacher Appreciation Day tomorrow, the Brick Church School Board would like to express its deep appreciation to the teachers and staff of the school. The Church and School depend on these dedicated professionals for our excellent educational reputation and the joyful spirit that permeates our building.

Amy Warden, Elena Jaime, and all of the school teachers and staff deserve our thanks and recognition for their important work. When faced suddenly with the challenges of the pandemic, these teachers rapidly committed themselves to learning, planning, and collaborating on a previously untried definition of preschool provided in a virtual platform. No one could have appreciated the difficulty of teaching in a virtual environment let alone the organization involved to make it happen. They continue to go beyond the call of duty to bring virtual learning to our school children during this time of crisis, placing the physical, intellectual and emotional well-being of our children at the forefront of their daily effort.

These efforts manifest themselves with meaningful and high-level age-appropriate instruction and engagement, one-on-one teacher visits, and weekly chapel. For their part, the school administration is continuing to seek and implement best in class educational tools, providing constant virtual resources for families, including bi-weekly emails, town hall meetings, parent coffees and counseling resources.

For all of these reasons and more, the Day School Board and the Board of Session express our deepest appreciation for the Brick Church teachers and administration and hope that our church community will keep them all in our prayers as they continue their meaningful work in this difficult time.
Raj Alva
Day School Board Chair and Member of Session

Sunday Church School
At Home
We thank all of our Sunday Church School teachers who dedicate so much time each week to our Sunday School Children! We also thank Kiah Baxter for the wonderful job she has done since her arrival in the fall and Jeff Shayne for his excellent coordination. Brick Church has one of the largest urban Church Sunday School programs in the nation, and it couldn't function without our committed volunteer teachers. We thank you! Each week, digital lessons containing videos, crafts, activities and/or conversation questions are being emailed to families enrolled in Sunday Church School and the 6th - 7th grade class meets via Zoom. Please email Kiah at kbaxter@brickchurch.org  with any questions.

Faith In Action

We give thanks for all who are supporting critical crisis work through meals, housing, clothing and personal support. Please contact Rev. Douglas King at  dking@brickchurch.org  if you are in need of assistance. To volunteer to assist others, email Chanel Robertson at  crobertson@brickchurch.org  or see specific needs from our benevolence partners below:

We are getting new clients every day and have been able to process them and get groceries into their hands immediately.
So many have been so generous with us and continue to support us in new ways. Since our food rescue is limited we have much higher food bills and have hired part-timers so there’s been an increase in staff costs. People are ordering from our  Amazon charity list  (please note that if you’ve sent anything from the list we are not getting packing slips so won’t be able to send a proper thank you- but THANK YOU!).
We are also using a small number of volunteers on the day-to-day projects. If you are not at extra risk according to  CDC Guidelines , don’t have anyone at home who is at high risk and are 18+ years old and feel comfortable coming in to volunteer please reach out to me.

If you are interested in helping your less fortunate neighbors get food during this uncertain time, please fill out this short form  and we will be in touch.

Thank you to those Brick Church members who have already helped with this important effort!
