Over five and a half years ago, our lives were forever changed. Our son, Nnamdi Richard Louis was executed in New Orleans, Louisiana, by the men who knew him. Nnamdi touched the hearts of all who met him. He was bilingual in French and English having received his designation while attending the International School of Louisiana and McMain Magnet Secondary School. Nnamdi graduated from McDonogh #35 Senior High School as a baseball player in May 2014. He became an alumnus of the same high school as his grandmother Julie Andrews, his father Flozell H. Daniels, Jr. and so many other relatives.

When Nnamdi passed away, there were two scholarships created. The Nnamdi Richard Louis Memorial Fund raised $11,250.00. These funds were directly awarded to Anthony Richard, Jr., Blair Joseph, and Steveland Williams.
Steveland Williams
Steveland is attending Langston University and studying Music Education. He is a member of the Langston University Football Team as a linebacker. Steveland said, “As a student-athlete and a proud alumnus of McDonogh #35 High School, The Nnamdi Louis’ Scholarship was a great way to allow me to continue my studies in higher education as a student-athlete. Accepting this scholarship has allowed me to fulfill my dream of becoming a music educator to youth that look like me. I am grateful for the opportunity the Nnamdi Louis’ scholarship has afforded me and my family, and I look forward to my graduation day in 2024.

Anthony graduated from Howard University with a B.A. in Media, Journalism, and Film and a minor in Audio Production. He is currently the Assistant Production Coordinator at Tyler Perry Studios. Anthony said, “I honestly didn’t know the scholarship was coming, but I see it as another way to make sure his name never fades. I still get flashbacks of him at the old church. I produced the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEF0zCRQKfM) to help release and express the frustration steady brewing inside of me. I had to get it out and my professor at NOCCA helped me channel what I was feeling into the video. Each year, my scholarship increased. Mama Heidi kept saying only the best and the brightest students attend historically black colleges and universities. ”

Blair-josesph2022
Blair graduated from Southeastern Louisiana in May 2021 with a major in communication and a minor in Spanish. He currently is a project manager for a roofing company. He is also a manager for Waffle House. Blair said, “When I heard the news that Nnamdi had passed, I was upset because I grew up with him. I was overjoyed because I never wanted Nnamdi to lose his life. Miss Heidi has been in my family’s life since 2008. She tutored my brother Brian Joseph Jr. in algebra 2 while he attended Brother Martin High School. She was always looking out for the youth at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. I felt like I could continue his legacy as a college student by accepting the scholarship in his name. I am thankful for the family for believing in me.”

The second scholarship was created at Broward Community College.

Nnamdi’s scholarship is a manifestation of love according to Jeremiah 29:13, “When you search for me, yes, search for me with all your heart, you will find me.” We have kept the extension of Nnamdi’s love alive through $20,000 raised in his name which has funded 25 students at Broward Community College so far.” You can donate to The Broward College Foundation, 401 E.
