Membership Guide

The Poplar Islands Yacht Club (PIYC) is a group with a rich history which for decades has had but one purpose: to enjoy the mature and select fellowship of persons interested in the fraternity of yachting.

We continue to seek like minded individuals for membership. We encourage existing members to introduce people to the PIYC, and we encourage anyone interested to seek us out to explore membership.

The process is the same for all and we share that process here hoping to recruit people who wish to participate.

The steps to becoming a member are as follows:

• Individuals should own a cruising boat with suitable overnight accommodation.

• The vessel should be located in the Chesapeake Bay Area.

• Individuals should demonstrate an interest in boating and express an interest in cruising.

• Individuals should attend a PIYC cruise or other PIYC event prior to being considered in the membership process.

• Each candidate should know or be acquainted with at least one current member who will serve as a proposer.

• The proposer will secure a seconder and both will summit to the Membership Chairman letters of support.

• A candidate will complete the application with appropriate background and photographs which will be forwarded to the Membership Chairman by mail or electronically.

• The Membership Chairman circulates candidate information to the Executive Committee for review and submission to the Membership for approval.

Once completed, provide the Application, photograph(s) of the candidate and family member and supporting material specified on the application to the Membership Committee electronically by clicking this EMAIL ADDRESS.

The candidate and proposer will be advised that the material has been received and consideration is underway.
