Dear New Rochelle High School Students:
I wanted to write to you to share some thoughts as we come to the end of what has been a very difficult and tragic week for our community. Losing two young men is heartbreaking and our thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones.
We have many unanswered questions as we ponder how this happened in our community and what can we do differently moving forward. I am also aware we all have experienced loss during this pandemic. We have lost experiences and we have lost a sense of community.
I do not pretend to have all the answers. But I do know that we can't be complacent, we can't just accept things as they are. I believe we can start by thinking how can we be better connected to our peers and others in our school community. Can we think about small acts of kindness and understanding? Can we use our voices to speak up when we notice something that doesn't feel right? Can we look for support and help from an adult when we are struggling?
Over the coming days I hope to have a chance to speak with many of you to hear directly about your thoughts and ideas, hopes, dreams, and fears. More than ever, we need your voices to know how we can best help and support you and create the conditions to build a more humane and loving community.
Sincerely,
