A Message from Edward B. Healton, MD, MPH

Dear Members of the GUMC Community,
This past week’s reprehensible comments by a Georgetown Law adjunct professor once again vividly illustrates the urgent need to continue our collective work toward ensuring that every member of our community is treated equitably. I share in the strongest possible condemnation of racism and bias in all forms – spoken and unspoken. There is no place anywhere for racism and bias, but most especially at our university. I join with President DeGioia, Dean Bill Treanor and the many other members of our community standing in solidarity with those who were deeply hurt by last week’s incident.
Racial justice is our highest priority at the Medical Center. Two weeks ago, we came together for our first community meeting of 2021 to discuss work underway toward eliminating racial injustice. You can read a summary about the meeting here and watch a recording of meeting here. We encourage you to join us in our journey as we continue to look inward to eliminate racism and to create a culture of mutual support, respect, equity and inclusion.
Edward B. Healton, MD, MPH
Executive Vice President for Health Sciences
Executive Dean, Georgetown University School of Medicine

In preparation for expanding research activities on campus, a new submission process for ongoing personnel changes has been put in place. The GMS portal for submitting Research Resumption Plans will be retired on Wednesday, March 17, after which researchers will need to use a new electronic form to make requests on behalf of new team members needing access to campus. Operations should remain within the 25% capacity limit.
