Dear Friends,
Owning a home is a cornerstone to building wealth in America. Unfortunately, in the District of Columbia nearly 49 percent of White residents own their homes, compared to only 34 percent of Black residents, and the percentage is even lower for Latino residents. Living in a healthy and safe home should not be a privilege in our city, but it is.
Yachad is working to change that.
This year we have increased our work and resources to lower income homeowners in Wards 5,7 and 8 to provide greater home remediation services that both build wealth and improve the health of families. Our partners, Children’s National Hospital, Lydia’s House, W.I.N and The 11th Street Bridge Park are connecting us with families, sometimes, block by block to see that our work can have the greatest impact. Our growing list of philanthropic partners makes it possible for us to afford our wide-ranging and skilled tradespeople.
There is a role for you too. Individual donations continue to be an important stream of revenue to support our work. Your gift of $100, $250, $500 or more will be matched 4:1 by our partner, CAAB, Capital Area Asset Builders.
Over this past year, Yachad’s funds leveraged more than $750,000 of public resources to support housing remediation measures and create new wealth for more than 30 homeowners totaling close to $1 million in services. Together, we can make home ownership a right rather than a privilege.
With great appreciation,
Audrey Lyon
