January 2024

The MIDFLORIDA Event Center welcomed a vibrant addition to its landscape with "Trumpet Flowers," an ensemble of 27 illuminated art pieces. Standing tall at 6 to 19 feet, these long-stemmed flowers invite participants to toot their own horns, activating a symphony of trumpet, tuba, trombone, and drum sounds. Crafted by Australian-based studio Amigo & Amigo, the interactive sculptures aim to unite the community in a collective celebration of creativity and wonder. Displayed until Jan. 24, 2024, "Trumpet Flowers" is the inaugural temporary art piece under Port St. Lucie’s Art in Public Places Master Plan, fostering accessible art experiences citywide without taxpayer funds.

Tradition Entertainment District

The Port St. Lucie Governmental Finance Corporation (GFC) made another significant move in Southern Grove as we approved a letter of intent with Tradition Entertainment District, LLC, to acquire approximately 19.49 acres within the Southern Grove Development. The proposal is for up to 100,000 square feet dedicated to a curated dining and entertainment experience, featuring world-class architecture and extensive landscaping.

2024 Community Survey to be Sent to Random Selection of Residents

In continuing efforts to gauge the pulse of Port St. Lucie, the National Business Survey, by Polco, will call for residents' perspectives. In a recent Council Workshop, City Council's engagement helped shape the survey's questions to align with the city's goal of fostering a diverse local economy and employment opportunities. The survey not only aids in identifying growth strategies but also benchmarks the city against peers with questions gauging quality of life and city character among many other data sets. As the survey is finalized, keep any eye out for your mailbox as you may be selected as a survey participant. If you receive a survey, please take the time to fill it out; we want to hear from you!

Costco Warehouse Distribution Depot

Coming to Southern Grove

In an exciting discussion, the Port St. Lucie City Council has approved Costco Wholesale's multi-phased development project known as Project Everest. This project involves a half-million-square-foot cold and dry storage depot spanning 192 acres in Sansone Group’s Legacy Park at Tradition. While distinct from the long-anticipated retail project, this venture promises substantial economic benefits.

The approved Costco depot is expected to generate hundreds of jobs, significantly exceeding the county's average wage. With this development, Port St. Lucie's vision of constructing a Jobs Corridor for its citizens nears completion.

The Jobs Corridor, spanning from the Tradition Center for Commerce to Legacy Park, is a testament to the city's strategic development plan initiated in 2018 for the 1,200-acre Southern Grove property. Notable companies like Cleveland Clinic, OCULUS Surgical, Cheney Brothers, and TAMCO already call this corridor home. The recent addition of Fortune 50 heavyweights such as FedEx, Amazon, and now Costco further solidifies Port St. Lucie's position as a hub for major facilities.

As the city celebrates this achievement, a hopeful eye remains on the future, with the aspiration to announce a retail Costco Warehouse someday. The City Council's decision marks a significant step in building a stronger and more vibrant community.

Looking ahead to February, the focus is on finalizing activities on southbound travel lanes, completing west side sidewalk construction, and preparing for paving activities to facilitate a traffic shift from Aurelia to Darwin.

Simultaneously, the PSL Blvd South, Segment 2.1 FDOT Managed Project saw advancements, including force main pipe connection, stormwater drainage work, pond and canal excavation, and traffic signal installation. Temporary widening construction began for northbound lanes to facilitate a traffic shift. February 2024 anticipates completing crossings, constructing the temporary east-side roadway, and continuing drainage work on the west side of SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard, showcasing collaborative infrastructure enhancements.
