Its creation was one of necessity when I sustained a devastating injury to my shoulder and arm while snowboarding in a blizzard with our family in Vermont. I was in severe pain and trapped in a house for days. To make matters worse, I could not tolerate any standard slings or immobilizers available, due to their claustrophobic feel and the pulling on my neck from their neck straps. Desperate, I cut the straps off my ski pants and attached them to a fanny pack - finally comfortably supporting my arm!

Our L3915/16 wrist brace (shown here with our patented night rest piece) allows regular use, step-down, semi-flexible, and has no hard metal bars. This is in contradistinction to the other “pillow type” braces out there that are essentially really designed for spasticity and intrinsic palsy, limiting the ability of the patient even to hold a fork to eat. 

Shoveling snow and slips on the ice with a fall also often result in lower back pain.
