CultureLink News

October 2022

Days are getting shorter and leaves are falling faster. The cooler temperatures and darker mornings can be a challenge for many, but the shock of it is specially harder for newcomers. The beautiful fall colours are uplifting, to kep our spirits high we organized team activities, and we tried to lift that of our clients with our regular events, plus a few special ones throughout the month.

Virtual General Meeting

This week was our AGM. Via Zoom again, but full of exciting news about new programs and projects, encouraging words from MPP Arif Virani and MP Bhutila Karpoche and the recognition of members of our staff celebrating work anniversaries. The highlight of our Evening Program was, however, current and former clients telling us their stories of connecting to their community, build a sense of belonging in Canada and being better prepared to find jobs though CultureLink.

Event Highlight

Early in the month, our Children & Youth Centre was the chosen location of a much anticipated Newcomer Youth Job Fair.

Our staff worked with clients beforehand to help them prepare their resumes and interview skills. On the day of the event, dozens of newcomer teens and young adults had the unique opportunity to meet representatives from 5 different companies for employment opportunities.

Our Team

This month we also teamed up with a Junction Neighbour, Pinot's Palette, to refresh and reinforce within our team the notion of working together, after doing everything remotely for so long.

We followed instructions to finish a painting and changed stations with every step, the end result being a number of collaborative creations that we will proudly hang in our walls!
