A Beautiful Message From a Client
*Sonya came to My Sisters Place from Prince George's County,
Maryland with her 2 children ages 2 and 8.

"I thought there were no more options for me. I didn’t know what I was going to do, where my children and I were going to go, until I came across My Sister’s Place! When I read about it online, I did not believe it was true; all the amazing things I read about the program. I never pictured me and my children in a shelter, I mean who would? The thing is this- it’s more than just a mothers and children's shelter, My Sister’s Place is A SAFE HOUSE! This is a place of hope and guidance and it even gives you faith, if you felt like you've lost it.

The women that they have working in this facility are more than social workers, they are truly God’s Angels. They won’t let you give up and they give you the extra strength from their souls to see you make it. I barely had anyone fighting for me until I came here and they helped build my mind back up, they gave me strength that I thought I had lost. They kept me grounded and they kept me sane in my darkest days. Moving into a new city, I felt like I knew nothing. They help me get an ID and they help me get my daughter into school and my son into daycare. When I came here, I didn’t know what to expect, I didn’t know I was going to build relationships and I didn’t know I was going to make new friends. I also didn’t think my children and I were going to be happy, but that’s just it. We are happy, I made great friends and great people came into my life. I will forever be grateful for My Sister’s Place!"

*Sonya is currently in our RISE program (Reaching Independence through Survivor Empowerment) and is working to launch her own candle company.

*This name has been changed to protect the survivor’s privacy.
Prepare a Home for a Domestic Violence Survivor
and Her Children
Please join us on every other Saturday as we furnish the new home of a survivor of domestic violence. Our families are excited to be able to be in their own homes, free from violence, but need our support to furnish it. We will need a small team to load the truck on Saturday, November 14th at 9:00 am at our storage space and another team to assist with moving the furniture in and setting up the apartment.

Please ----> sign-up if you would like to donate furniture or help set-up and move furniture into their new home. Once you've signed-up, you will receive a confirmation email with the exact location and any additional details of the move. Please remember to follow DC's order of wearing a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to please stay home if you have any symptoms.

Please contact Angela Cavanaugh, if you have any questions at
(202) 540-1049 or email us at volunteer@mysistersplacedc.org.
Please spread the word!
Thank you Mary Kay Foundation!
