*Sonya came to My Sisters Place from Prince George's County,
Maryland with her 2 children ages 2 and 8.
"I thought there were no more options for me. I didn’t know what I was going to do, where my children and I were going to go, until I came across My Sister’s Place! When I read about it online, I did not believe it was true; all the amazing things I read about the program. I never pictured me and my children in a shelter, I mean who would? The thing is this- it’s more than just a mothers and children's shelter, My Sister’s Place is A SAFE HOUSE! This is a place of hope and guidance and it even gives you faith, if you felt like you've lost it.
The women that they have working in this facility are more than social workers, they are truly God’s Angels. They won’t let you give up and they give you the extra strength from their souls to see you make it. I barely had anyone fighting for me until I came here and they helped build my mind back up, they gave me strength that I thought I had lost. They kept me grounded and they kept me sane in my darkest days. Moving into a new city, I felt like I knew nothing. They help me get an ID and they help me get my daughter into school and my son into daycare. When I came here, I didn’t know what to expect, I didn’t know I was going to build relationships and I didn’t know I was going to make new friends. I also didn’t think my children and I were going to be happy, but that’s just it. We are happy, I made great friends and great people came into my life. I will forever be grateful for My Sister’s Place!"
