Church of the Holy Comforter | Vienna, VA

In 2012, Holy Comforter moved forward with the plan to expand our building and create the Mary and Martha Ministry Center, named in honor of Mary Wood and Martha Clark. Mary and Martha were both longtime parishioners who were considered matriarchs of Holy Comforter. They served as Presidents of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) and on the Vestry during their time at Holy Comforter and also held leadership positions in the Altar Guild, Pennywise Thrift Shop, and the Memorial Gift Fund. Mary passed away at age 92 in 2012 and Martha passed away at age 90 in 2014.

In 2017, the groundbreaking for the two-story Ministry Center took place.

The opening and ribbon cutting was held June 9, 2019.

We now enjoy the benefits of our expansion, with additional classrooms, our new kitchen, and the large gathering hall for meetings, events, and fellowship.

At its December 2023 meeting, the Vestry decided to explore a designation for the large hall on the main level of the Mary and Martha Ministry Center that would describe its function and more likely appeal to potential renters, including non-parishioners. The Mary and Martha Ministry Center name would not change; it will continue to be the name of the building. The following suggestions were raised as possible designations for the hall in the Ministry Center:

  • Fellowship Hall
  • Social Hall
  • Community Hall
  • Great Hall
  • Mary & Martha Hall
