Chuck Wagner's New Bonanza Cabernet!
Plus a classic Napa Cab from Cliff Lede...

When the legendary Chuck Wagner, the man behind the iconic Caymus Cabernet, comes out with a new Cabernet for $19.99 per bottle, that's exciting!

Chuck's new wine, Bonanza, is 100% Cabernet from personally selected vineyards in California. Today we feature the inaugural bottling, and it is everything you expect from a Wagner Cab - full, ripe dark fruit, a wisp of smoke, a luxuriously silky mouthfeel and a mere hint of tannins. This is exactly what a Cab lover wants, at a perfect price point!

"Lot 1" Cabernet Sauvignon
The Wagner Family, the founder of Caymus, is synonymous with rich and delicious California Cabernet. Their new Cabernet Sauvignon is called Bonanza, and it is a knockout!

One look at the back label and the pedigree of Bonanza Cabernet becomes indisputable - there's a picture of Chuck Wagner behind the wheel of a pickup truck. The logo on the door of the truck? Caymus!  This non-vintage California Cabernet is legit juice that delivers real Cabernet Sauvignon flavor and character.

To give Chuck maximum flexibility in crafting this wine, it carries a California appellation and a lot number rather than a vintage. While the winery does not disclose fruit sourcing, our suspicion is that it likely contains a good amount of fruit from the Wagner family's vineyards in the Suisun Valley. We would not be surprised if a bit of Napa fruit also found its way in!

As you would expect, the Bonanza "Lot 1" is full of ripe fruits, including black cherry, blackberry and blueberry, along with telltale flavors of green herbs, a bit of tobacco, vanilla and milk chocolate. This follows the modern style Cab that Chuck Wagner helped to create, and there is a nod to his memory of the wine he made and drank with his dad back when. The resulting mix of modern fruit and traditional character makes for a wine that is structured, compelling and totally delicious.

It has been DECADES since a Chuck Wagner Cabernet sold for this price. Our guess is that Bonanza will become a big hit right out of the gate. One of our tasters, in fact, already spotted it in a flight at a wine bar down in Huntsville, AL. Once he tasted it, he knew it was something we needed to bring to you. At twenty bucks a bottle, Cabernet lovers are going to jump all over this one!

The Powerful 2015 Cliff Lede Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
2015 Cliff Lede
Cabernet Sauvignon
Stags Leap District, Napa Valley, California
Winemaker Christopher Tynan has done it again. This powerful, concentrated 2015 beauty offers big black fruit flavors complemented by smoke, baking spice and a big, bold bit of tannin. The 2015 Cliff Lede Stags Cabernet from the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley is a stunner!

Established in 2002, Cliff Lede is relatively new to the Napa Valley Cab scene and has quickly gained a legion of followers. There is something special about the structure and pure joy in Cliff Lede bottlings. We award this wine a very enthusiastic 94 points. Wine Advocate offers this wonderful review...

"A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District offers up a cassis, smoked meat, blackberry preserves and spice cake-scented nose with a mocha hint. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated with firm, grainy tannins, it shows a lot of oak, which should marry with the intense fruit, finishing long and layered. Drink 2017 - 2033."
- 93 Points, Wine Advocate (10/31/2017)

Napa Cabernet lovers, this one is the real deal.
