And so we begin again.
Onward into the unknown one more time, stronger, more resilient, more determined. We can do this.
Here's to a happier, healthier, musical, art-filled, even more successful year ahead.

A full Arts Blast will be back next week after a bit of a holiday slowdown. Why do I not feel rested? Could it be the days-long cooking marathon, making sure island friends and I had plenty of kalalloo to see us through Old Year's Night? The vat of vegetable soup to share with a friend having surgery this week? The too-lumpy Virgin Islands potato stuffing for another friend's annual Christmas treat?
I plan to take the weekend off, maybe take a FaceTime crocheting lesson, read an old Randy Wayne White book and a new one from Tim Dorsey, give the house a lick-and-a-promise cleaning, plant some seeds --- wait a minute. That doesn't sound a lot like taking the weekend off. I'll try again. What are your traditions for ending one year and beginning a new one?

If you weren't able to see the Christmas Celebration at First Presbyterian Church in person last week, here's the YouTube link to enjoy it now. And enjoyment doesn't begin to describe the feeling I and others I've talked to had while watching Jacob Craig conducting a huge collection of the best musicians the area has to offer: the First Presbyterian Chancel Choir in collaboration with singers from The Vero Beach Choral Society, Sebastian River High School Choirs, Vero Beach High School Choirs, Indian River Charter High School Choir, the First Pres Youth String Orchestra joined by the FPC Youth Winds and Percussion ensemble. Think goosebumps.
And if you haven't listened to the special holiday Arts Blast on the Air, pour a cup of something nice and kick back for 25 minutes. We have so much wonderful, generous local talent! And what fun it was to put it together.
A note from Live! from Vero Beach: The shows scheduled for December 30 and January 13 were canceled but Rus Anderson returns to Vero Beach in The Rocket Man Show, the blockbuster Elton John tribute show, January 20 at 7 p.m. at The Emerson Center.

Have you discovered Arts Blast on the Air yet?
It isn't a spoken version of Willi Miller's Arts Blast. The weekly podcast and radio show offers interviews with people active in the arts locally, regionally, and nationally. The addition of an early-release downloadable podcast is an exciting step for Willi Miller's Arts Blast and it would not be possible without our great sponsors, Riverside Theatre and Ballet Vero Beach, collaborator Donna Roberts Mitchell, and our tech guy, Jesse Kriske. Thanks for listening! CATCH THE PODCAST ONLINE. For information on advertising in Arts Blast on the Air, contact Donna.

Ed Sullivan Review at the Barn!
|
|
When I was a kid, Sunday night was Ed Sullivan night at our house. From its beginning in 1948 until 1955, the CBS variety show was called Toast of the Town and although the name became the Ed Sullivan Show until its run ended in 1971, the concept and popular appeal didn't.
We never knew what to expect -- Señor Wences or Topo Gigio, an amazing plate spinner (you had to be there), Elvis Presley, Maria Callas, or one of the great comedians of the time.
This weekend, George Trullinger brings back the memories with his "Ed Sullivan and His Rock 'n' Roll Special" at the Barn Theatre in Stuart.
Trullinger, a resident of DeLand, Florida, has been a professional entertainer for 40 years. He portrayed Buddy Holly as an original cast member for more than 25 years in the Legends in Concert show in Las Vegas. "It's the longest running show in Las Vegas history," Trullinger said.
|
|
He said the audiences at the Barn can expect a few surprises, but it's definitely a tribute show. "We'll feature tributes to Ed Sullivan, The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, and The Blues Brothers."
Joining Trullinger will be Tim Stamper, also a Legends in Concert performer. "Tim has performed across the U.S. as well as Germany, Switzerland, and Greece."
The Ed Sullivan Show was Trullinger's inspiration. "I remember watching Mr. Sullivan every Sunday night when I was a kid, and it inspired me from a young age (especially when I watched The Beatles first appearance) to become an entertainer.
"Our show is all about Music, Comedy, and Nostalgia. A true variety show with something for everyone, especially those who remember The Ed Sullivan Show."
Ed Sullivan and His Rock 'n' Roll Special is at the Barn Theatre in Stuart January 1 and 2.

🎨 As 2021 and the third year of Arts Blast come to a close, I hope to carve out time to get back to my own art studio. To make it work, I will be liquidating tools, supplies, and books for a variety of arts interests I've enjoyed over the years. I'm picking out a few favorites to keep but it's someone else's turn on others. A few categories: Lapidary equipment and tons of slabs and rough; lamp work; stained glass; gourds galore; metalwork; clay; enameling; wood carving; painting; tons of books and magazines. Maybe not the enameling or wood carving. Or painting. 🤔 And I'll keep a few gourds.🙄 Oh, this is tough!
