Discovering New Destinations

Recently I had the opportunity to travel to Reno and the Lake Tahoe area for the American Society of Travel Agents Global Convention. With over 2000 of my peers, I heard what travel industry leaders are planning and how it will impact our clients. I was excited to meet celebrity peers, Samantha Brown from the Travel Channel as well as travel journalist Peter Greenberg.

While there I had the pleasure of hearing Chelsey 'Sulley' Sullenberger, retired airline captain and CBS News aviation and safety expert. He spoke of his experience safely guiding a US Airways jetliner to an emergency landing on the icy Hudson River in 2009, saving the lives of all 155 aboard the aircraft.

Luckily for me, I also had time to venture outside of the convention walls. This area has so much more to experience than I imagined, and I want to share with you the highlights of this beautiful vacation destination.

         Winter Activities
The Reno/Lake Tahoe area has the highest concentration of ski resorts in North America. Just a short 25 minute drive from the Reno airport is Mt. Rose, a local favorite and the highest base of any ski resort in the Sierras. Or visit the iconic Squaw Valley, where the 1960's Winter Olympics were held.

Experience hundres of miles of snowmobile trails and scenic cross country ski trails. Or enjoy one of the many winter festivals and events including the North  Lake Tahoe Snow Fest, the Snow Globe Music Festival, and the Alpenglow Winter Film Series.

Anyone who knows me, knows basketball is always on my radar. So we can't forget the Reno Bighorns, an NBA Development League team affiliated with the Sacramento Kings. The team plays in downtown Reno from late November through early April.
