Only one week until the 2017-18 year and we're making big plans! Here's whats new.
The VAVS monthly reports are moving online! Like the grant applications and so much else in Elkdom, we're going paperless.
We're adding 20 More Freedom Grants, giving 200 Lodges the chance to receive this grant in 2017-18.
We're flying all 48 State ENVSC Chairs to the Elks National Convention in Reno for the first annual State Veterans Chair Training.
We're increasing our outreach by adding a veterans service activity at the Hoop Shoot National Finals, and working with the scholarship department to plan veteran-focused Elks Scholar Service Trips.
What's your Lodge planning for next year?
Help Veterans Get Moving!
For veterans and others with disabilities, just getting up and on the move can be a daily struggle. Busted sidewalks, buildings without elevators, and rough terrain can make using a wheelchair difficult.
For some, that struggle continues at home. Building wheelchair ramps can help veterans and others greatly increase their independence.
We checked in with a few Lodges who've built wheelchair ramps before, and they helped us put together a guide for other Lodges looking to do the same.
Have an event coming up? Check out our supply list! In addition to our standard brochures and other items, we've added a few items recently.
When we shared photos of Elks HQ staff volunteering at the Winter Stand Down, our Elks bags caught the eye of a few volunteers. Now, you can order blue Elks Veterans Service cinch bags for when your Lodge distributes supplies to veterans.
Soldier's Wish is a nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of veterans, service members and their families. They tackle projects like home renovations for veterans with disabilities, and raise funds to provide veterans with all terrain wheelchairs for outdoor recreation. Visit their website to learn more, including how you can nominate a veteran to have a wish granted.
