Saying Goodbye to Our Former Chair
Our dear friend and colleague, Victoria Ann Rodriguez, recently concluded her incredible volunteer career with the Springfield Puerto Rican Parade. Victoria has been a part of the parade since her youth, performing as a pageant princess and ultimately serving as the chair of the board for three years. The parade has always been close to Victoria's heart, and her love for it was passed down from her mother, who served as a parade chair herself.
Victoria's impact on the Springfield Puerto Rican Parade has been immeasurable. During her time as chair of the board, she successfully led the parade through several significant transitions, including the transition from committee to nonprofit, and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. She also made significant improvements to the parade's registration process, established connections with other parades across the country, and forged partnerships with organizations dedicated to supporting and empowering the Puerto Rican community. Throughout her tenure, Victoria was a tireless advocate for all committee members and parade volunteers, providing support and encouragement every step of the way.
Victoria's hard work, passion, and dedication to her culture and community have left an indelible mark on the Springfield Puerto Rican Parade. Although she is stepping away from her leadership role, she will always be found waving our beautiful flag and screaming "¡WEPA!" on parade day, which will forever be her favorite day of the year. We are grateful for Victoria's leadership and dedication, and we will miss her dearly. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
Other notable mentions
We are also saddened to announce the departure of two additional board members, Jade Rivera-McFarlin who played a vital role in establishing our parade’s voice through her marketing and communication expertise and Lizzy Ortiz who was instrumental in organizing parade day registrations before and during our busiest day of the year. Thank you both for your dedication and contributions to our parade. You will be missed.
