We're excited to announce that our 90th Anniversary Gala will be held on November 15, 2025 at the Event Center at Christ the Light Cathedral in Oakland. Our honorary guest speaker is beloved former SF Giants pitcher Dave Dravecky who will be sharing his journey of faith and recovery as a cancer survivor and how that has influenced his life of service. Opportunities to sponsor and reserve a table are now open.

Finding Home

Thomas is a 75-year-old senior who came to Catholic Charities East Bay facing eviction and experiencing overwhelming stress. Unfortunately, his landlord was unwilling to stop legal proceedings, and ultimately, Thomas had to move.

We did not give up.

Delia, our experienced housing project manager, worked closely with Thomas for more than two months to help him obtain secure, stable housing. She called him every week to check in. This support gave him some peace of mind during a crisis. He knew he was not alone.

Within a couple of months, Thomas found a room to rent, and we helped pay the security deposit and rent for his first two and a half months.

Living on a fixed income makes it especially difficult for seniors to manage, especially if a crisis results in unexpected bills. Thomas' new rent is $1,100 a month, which is still affordable given that his only income is his monthly social security check.

Thomas wrote to thank Delia: "It may sound dramatic, but when things start going bad it seems they don't stop. The assistance that you helped me with through Catholic Charities was a life saver."

This is why your support matters so much to us and to seniors like Thomas. The needs are growing, and you are making a difference.

Meet the Development Team

It takes teams to make Catholic Charities work: on the front lines working directly with our neighbors in need, and behind the scenes, keeping support services running.

One behind the scenes engine is our Development team, led by Liz Davis, Director, Office of Mission Advancement. Together, the team is responsible for fundraising and donor relationships, volunteers, and special events such as Coffee on the Quarter and our upcoming Gala. Development is also in charge of our annual Joy Bells holiday gift drive for children and families, a cherished Christmas tradition.

Team members share a deep and abiding passion for growing support for our work benefiting our neighbors in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. It's what fuels all of their efforts.

Left to right, Danica Simonet, Liz Davis, Mari Mosca, and Jackie Ochoa.
