A New Life for Flower Bouquets - Bonnie’s Blooms, Artistic Pressed Flowers
Bonnie’s Blooms, a local Raleigh business turns fresh wedding flowers or any flower arrangement into framed art. What a unique artistic way to keep a memory and pass it on from generation to generation!

Bonnie Hall founder and owner of Bonnie’s Blooms began this modern, artistic design of flower pressing in 2018 and currently creates beautiful floral art for over 200 clients a year.
Hall builds her own wooden presses to save her clients' flowers, which take between four to six weeks to dry.

"That's when the magic happens," she said. "When they're ready to come out, that's when I kind of flex my creative muscle to put together a work of art."

Bonnie describes her frames as modern yet timeless. She can have up to 25 or 30 flower presses going at a time, which are all dated, labeled and stacked in her home office. When fresh flowers arrive, she has to process them immediately, because the flowers have a short lifespan. It’s important to press the flowers while they are fresh.
Even while keeping up with multiple clients at a time and dozens of weddings a year, the work is calming. You can't rush the process of pressing flowers. So Hall says it’s nice to embrace ‘the slow’ as she works with her hands to create unique art pieces.

Part of this process is that Hall sends a draft of the artwork to her clients for approval. Some petals aren’t precisely placed and that is intentional. She never fully assembles the flowers until the client confirms their design, as petals and flower placement are sometimes adjusted based on feedback. The design draft gives clients a good idea of what the layout will look like when framed. It’s important to Hall that a couple’s framed bouquet is loved just as much as their fresh bouquet!
Bonnie is a big fan of using a contrast background for those all white bridal bouquets. It’s a fun way to pull in another color from the wedding day, maybe from bridesmaids dresses or reception linens, and it really makes the pressed white flowers stand out.
What you Need to Know -
  • The full process to complete and frame your flowers will take about two months.
