CORPORATE AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS SPOTLIGHT

On July 15th, thirteen employees from Masergy in town for a business conference, donated their time on a Sunday afternoon to help clean our therapy and visitation rooms. This international group volunteered with employees from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and across the United States. The guests were amazed at the scope of services the Center provides to our clients. Keeping the therapy rooms clean helps keep our clients safe, and Sunday is the only day that all the rooms are available for a deep cleaning. In addition to their volunteer hours, Masergy has been a supporter of the Center for the past seven years, having helped collect backpacks and funds for our annual Back to School Fair, and also been the Title Sponsor for our golf tournament for the past three years. We are grateful for their support and time to make a difference here at Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County.

A NEW PERSPECTIVE

Jacob, an eighteen year old, was sexually abused by a coach he trusted. The abuse happened outside of Collin County and several different agencies were involved.  Jacob received therapy services from the Center for six months, during which, he worked on recognizing his feelings and learning ways to cope with them and dealing with triggers/reminders of the abuse. Family work was also done to help them all heal from their trauma. He responded well to the use of a variety of music therapy interventions. After several months of work, Jacob reported that his life has changed and he looks forward to doing a lot of traveling. He felt comfortable leaving therapy as he has been able to manage his triggers and use coping skills to face life with a new perspective.
