On June 30, HomeAid Georgia joined Builder Captains Paran Homes and Evans General Contractors, along with trade partners and community supporters, to celebrate the completion of a new emergency and transitional shelter for Peace Place in Jackson County. The 10,000-square-foot facility will provide a safe haven for women and children fleeing domestic violence, doubling the organization's shelter capacity by adding 32 beds.
The project also marks an important milestone as HomeAid Georgia's first major construction project outside its original metro Atlanta footprint following the organization's statewide expansion in late 2024. Through donated and discounted labor, materials, and services, the building industry has already provided more than $779,000 in savings on the shelter's $1.3 million retail budget.
"Building this shelter wasn't just about constructing a building," said Sean Driggers of Paran Homes. "It was about creating a place of safety and peace where healing can begin."
Peace Place empowers survivors and their families while working to break the cycle of domestic violence through shelter, advocacy, education, and support programs.
Peace Place Executive Director Traci Bledsoe expressed, "Together, we created a refuge—a place of peace—where women and children will find safety, healing, and empowerment when home is no longer a safe place to be."
HomeAid Georgia extends its sincere gratitude to Paran Homes, Evans General Contractors, and their 55 trade partners whose generosity helped make this life-changing project possible to serve as a resource for women and children seeking safety, stability, and a fresh start.
