DePauw University in Greencastle, IN is taking new steps to revolutionize the way their students learn and interact with this growing world of technology. DePauw is developing the first center focused around teaching every single student how to use technology in his or her field of study. Programs include spatial analysis, data visualization, 3D printing and other digital media. This initiative was made possible by a generous donation. Upon receiving the gift, the university published a press release referencing a quote by Steve Jobs.
“In my perspective…science and computer science is a liberal art. It’s something everyone should know how to use, at least, and harness in their life. It’s not something that should be relegated to 5 percent of the population over in the corner. It’s something that everybody should be exposed to and everyone should have mastery of to some extent, and that’s how we viewed computation and these computation devices.”
The university continued on to say that the Technology Center is an extension of Steve Jobs’ vision and that “it will impact every DePauw student and serve as a cutting-edge model for all liberal arts colleges.”
DePauw will also be enhancing their cyber-infrastructure and internet connectivity on campus, thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation. This effort will improve the ability to transfer large data-sets and better connect the campus to national research networks.
In this great new development, DePauw is in need of a director to take the lead. If you are interested,
