A New Resource Center for the Community Supervision Field from CEPP

CEPP is excited to announce that we have been selected to create and manage the new Bureau of Justice Assistance-sponsored Community Supervision Resource Center (CSRC).

The CSRC will serve as a centralized hub for information for pretrial, probation, and parole supervision agencies around the country. Specifically, this multi-year initiative will:

Launch a website in 2023 that will serve as a clearinghouse for community supervision resources, research, and training and funding announcements
Provide training and technical assistance on a wide variety of community supervision-related topics
Create new informational resources and tools for the field
Highlight new research and innovations from the field
Intentionally focus on racial equity and centering the experiences of people and communities impacted by the criminal legal system

CEPP will administer the CSRC with support from the Center for Court Innovation, JustLeadershipUSA, the American Probation and Parole Association, the Association of Paroling Authorities International, and the National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies.

CEPP’s Dosage Probation Project

CEPP is working with several counties in Minnesota to advance the dosage probation model that CEPP created in 2011 with the National Institute of Corrections.

Dosage probation is an innovative and research-informed approach to sentencing and supervision. It incentivizes behavior change by providing people with an opportunity to earn early discharge if they successfully engage in evidence-based interventions tailored to their criminogenic needs in a “dose” matched to their assessed likelihood of recidivism.

CEPP’s Kansas Innovations in Supervision Initiative

CEPP is working collaboratively with the Carey Group and the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) leadership team to build the infrastructure needed to use parole and probation supervision practices that reduce recidivism and promote more successful outcomes for people who are justice-involved.

This work involves:

Assessing KDOC’s current policies and practices and their fidelity to evidence-based supervision practices
Establishing clear performance measures
Developing a training and coaching plan to ensure long-term fidelity and sustainability

CEPP’s National Parole Resource Center

CEPP administered the BJA-sponsored National Parole Resource Center (NPRC) from 2009 to 2019. Through the NPRC, CEPP helped parole boards adopt evidence-based approaches to parole decision making by providing training and technical assistance to 45 of the nation’s paroling authorities and creating a comprehensive library of more than 20 resources on specialized parole topics.

NPRC advanced paroling authorities’ knowledge about evidence-supported practices in parole decision making and led to improved results in jurisdictions where assistance was provided.
