Greetings!
Welcome to Catholic Schools Week! The National Catholic Educational Association coordinates this annual event to focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and what this ministry contributes to our church and our society at large. This year the theme is “Catholic Schools: Faith, Excellence, Service”. The De La Salle School strives daily to be such a community here in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
As we usher in Catholic Schools Week, we also are in the process of recruiting for the Class of 2027. This class will start fifth grade in September and when they graduate in June of 2027 they will represent our twenty-second graduating class. We have come a long way since our humble beginnings back in 2002, yet there is still much more that is needed to continue the mission of providing a quality human and Christian education in the Lasallian tradition for young men from economically challenged families here on Long Island.
The beginning of February finds us at the halfway mark in our academic year; a time when we are introducing potential new students to our school just as we are working with our eighth graders to help them find appropriate high school settings for next year.
All of our eighth-grade students took the Catholic High School entrance exam and I am excited to report that in September they will be attending one of the following schools – Chaminade, Holy Trinity or Kellenberg Memorial. We will be working with these students to help them secure financial scholarships and aid, as well as continuing to prepare them academically, socially, and spiritually for the challenges ahead. Thank you to all who contributed to our Christmas Appeal benefiting our Graduate Support Program. Your generosity will help us to ensure some financial assistance to those young men who have choosen to attend one of these Catholic Schools.
Live Jesus in Our Hearts … FOREVER!!
