Welcome to 2023, and the 193rd General Court of the Massachusetts legislature! There is so much to be grateful for, and yet much work to be doing.

SWEARING IN CEREMONY

Last week, I was sworn in for my third term as the Representative for the Fifteenth Middlesex District. After redistricting, my district now includes Precinct 6 in Winchester, Wards 1 & 7 in Woburn, and all of Lexington except Precinct 6. Thank you to every friend, volunteer, and voter who has given me the gift of representing our amazing district. It is a tremendous honor.

I could not be more excited to dig into the start of this legislative session, especially with Governor Maura Healey and Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll's new administration in place. With their strong leadership, we in the Legislature have the opportunity to partner with the Executive Branch for a truly transformative two years and beyond.

During the pomp and circumstance, I had time to reflect on why I love this job and to consider what a blessing it is to be able to help my constituents, serve my district, and take actions that make the Commonwealth a better place to live, work, and raise a family. I am fired up to do the people's work and very much looking forward to what we will accomplish together.

Our bill filing deadline is January 20th and I have an ambitious portfolio of bills being readied for filing and a number of new projects which you can read about below.

In this session, we will continue to work for the things that matter most to the 15th Middlesex including:

  • aggressive climate policy that accelerates carbon reduction
  • cutting-edge educational systems that support lifelong learners
  • abundant and affordable housing
  • transportation and connectivity options that enhance mobility while reducing congestion
  • mental health and wellness supports
  • waste and toxicity reduction
  • economic development

I will continue to chair the Zero Waste Caucus alongside Sen. Jason Lewis, and am spearheading the Trails Caucus revival with Sen. Brendan Crighton. Legislators, like everyone, are stronger together, and I'm greatly looking forward to the opportunity to foster better policy through collaboration, shared ideas, and intentional listening strategies.

I'll write again in a few weeks with the summaries of my new bills, and a schedule of office hours. Please check my website and follow me on social media for further updates.

Thank you, again and as always, to every person who makes this work possible.

On swearing-in day, my son Foster Jackson, accompanied me to the Chamber and we had fun catching a photo with Senator Elizabeth Warren!

Above, some of the members of Team Ciccolo gathered to help me celebrate.
