Maggie's Wine and Chocolate Pairing starts Jan. 18
Wine is romantic.
Chocolate is romantic.
When you choose the right wine to complement the right chocolate, it can be a remarkable pairing opportunity that delights the palate - and feeds the heart!
Just in time for Valentine's Day, Maggie offers her wine paired with delicious truffles, from the Birnn family of Vermont chocolatiers, Jan. 18 - Feb. 18 in the Wine Cave.
Watch Maggie's Facebook and Instagram pages for more information on chocolate selections.
Route 340 rock survey Jan. 13-14
Affects only northern West Virginia visitors
It is business as usual at Maggie's Wine Cave and Harpers Ferry Road, on which the winery is located, Jan. 13-14.
But our West Virginia visitors should be aware that the State Division of Highways is planning a rock-fall survey of the Blue Ridge Mountain cliff above Jefferson County, W.V.'s, Route 340, three miles north of the Wine Cave, near the Shenandoah River.
While the winery and Harpers Ferry Road remain open during the survey, Route 340
will close from Washington Street, at Harpers Ferry, WV, - before the Shenandoah River bridge - to just west of the Exxon gas station on Route 340. Easy-to-follow detours will be in place.
If you aren't visiting the Wine Cave from a northern West Virginia location or planning to visit historic Harpers Ferry, W.V., this weekend, the Route 340 detour should
NOT affect you.
Maggie and her cru will see you in the Wine Cave 11-6 on Saturday and 11-5 on Sunday!
is never done
Petite Manseng 2017 is whole-cluster pressed
The next time you are enjoying a glass at Maggie's Wine Cave, stop and consider the hard work that
went into making the wine.
Maggie recently was in the Wine Cave checking on the progress of her Petite Manseng 2017, which was whole
The whole-cluster pressing method, of gently pressing entire grape bunches, minimizes the tannins that naturally exist in the skins, seeds and stems, and produces a more delicate wine.
But, like anything worth doing, whole-cluster pressing is a more time-consuming process.
Maggie stayed late, working well passed midnight last fall, to make sure the grapes were pressed just the way she wanted.
"I stayed up 'til 2 in the morning to press it," Maggie said.
"Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices.
t's going to be a beautiful wine!"
The resulting wine will be bottled in April and released later this year, at the winemaker's discretion.
It's a new year and Maggie is getting ready to release her 2015 reds, which were bottled last August, and more of her delicious 2016 whites.
(Her 2015 Rhapsody in Red and Merlot were released in December.)
Some of Maggie's select batches of bottled reds will be released as members-only Wine Club exclusives.
For example, Maggie's Tannat 2014, which won double gold and Best of Show for Tannat in San Francisco last year, was a June 2017 limited-edition, exclusive-wine club-only release.
