2025 brought its share of uncertainty, but it was also a year of growth and celebration. As we welcome the new year, we have a lot to look forward to. We closed off 2025 assembling welcome-home kits for our tenants at Liberty Lane. Thanks to our amazing ACOF team and volunteers, our newly-moved-in tenants were welcomed into their homes with essential household items, turning their new space into a new home. Plus, coming this spring, we will open three new buildings in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. In addition to the grand openings, we are also thrilled to announce a grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation in support of ACOF to continue our mission to end homelessness.

GRAND OPENINGS

ACOF is excited to begin the new year with several grand openings in the works! We are welcoming The Nova, Highland Heights, and Liberty Lane to our growing housing portfolio. These new apartment communities reflect our commitment to expanding permanent supportive housing for families and individuals across Los Angeles and surrounding counties.

The Nova is a 99-unit housing community in Canoga Park, Highland Heights is a 61-unit Project Homekey development created through the reuse of a former hotel, and Liberty Lane is a 79-unit community in Redlands, our second permanent supportive housing apartment community in the Inland Empire. Together, these developments provide critical housing and a foundation for individuals, families and veterans to gain long term stability. More information on these grand openings coming soon!

WELCOME HOME KITS - LIBERTY LANE

At ACOF, we believe that the transition into a new home should be as smooth and comforting as possible for our tenants. That’s why we provide Welcome Home Kits to new tenants moving into each new ACOF apartment community. These kits include essential household items, from kitchenware and bedding to cleaning supplies and personal care products, all aimed at helping our tenants settle in and feel truly at home from day one. Our wonderful team had a blast assembling Welcome Home Kits for 79 units at Liberty Lane, with the help of volunteers from Walton Construction Inc. and Western Community Housing. Visit our website to learn more on how you can contribute to our Welcome Home Kits.

S. MARK TAPER FOUNDATION GRANT

We are thrilled to announce A Community of Friends has received a grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation. The S. Mark Taper Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1989 that is dedicated to enhancing the quality of people's lives by supporting nonprofit organizations and their work throughout Southern California. This is not the first time we are receiving funds from this foundation, the S. Mark Taper Foundation also provided generous funding to ACOF that established our Family and Children's Services Program, which continues to support kids and teens with award-winning after school tutoring and summer enrichment programs.

This year, funding will provide high quality permanent supportive housing to people who deserve the dignity of a place to call home. This general operating support grant can assist with maintaining high quality supportive services, such as our Family and Children Services program or our Professional Development Program, and making essential repairs and replacements at ACOF’s older buildings. Did you know that one-third of ACOF's buildings are more than a century old?! Caring for them requires significant funding. Grant funding and donations are essential in meeting that need.

We are grateful for this grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation and the lasting positive impact it will have on our tenants and communities.
